It is a member of the Asparagaceae family. Dracaena is sometimes called dragon plants, and the word «dracaena» comes from the ancient Greek «drakaina», which means female dragon. This name is given due to a red resin stored within the stems of the plant that some have compared to «dragon blood».

It is grown permanently under shade nets, in the mountains of Costa Rica at 1000 meters high, where constant daytime temperatures range from 22 to 30 degrees. This plant has beautiful shades of white, yellow and green.
